Camperdown past students to honour four outstanding teachers
FOUR veteran teachers of the Camperdown High School will be honoured by the school’s past student’s association at an award function in Kingston on Saturday evening.
The four include outgoing principal Cynthia Cooke, who is currently on pre-retirement leave after 34 years of distinguished service at the institution. The association said she was widely regarded for outstanding leadership in the field of education.
The other honourees are vice principal Winnifred Robinson, Annette Henry and Maureen Thompson.
“.These four teachers have served us for more than 100 years, and an integral part of their contribution was an unanswering commitment to qualify education which brought enlightenment and liberation,” said Cheryl Riggs, president of the Jamaican chapter of the association.
Other highlights of this year’s reunion will be the relaunching of a mentorship programme, initially announced in 2008.
The programme, said Riggs, targets Camperdown students with special needs or who are on “board probation”, ie, those who exhibit unusually aggressive behaviour.
