Teenage
BY KIMBERLEY SHERLOCK Observer TEENage writer UWI
November 30, 2009

Jordanne Bisasor Ready for the business

LAID back and simple in appearance, 19-year-old Jordanne Bisasor is a songbird with a contagious smile. Using the stage name Jordanne Patrice, she is new on the scene and is definitely one to look out for in the near future.

Recently getting her first radio play of her cover of Every Time We Touch, a few weeks ago on KLAS and MegaJams, TEENage sat down with the upcoming TEEN star to get to know her a bit more.

TEENage: What inspired you to start singing?

Jordanne Bisasor (JB): I think it was hereditary. [laughs] I’m from a family of music-lovers and I have grown to have a passion and love for music.

TEENage: When did you start taking music seriously?

JB: It wasn’t until this summer that I started taking it seriously although I ‘used’ my talent before that and I did training.

TEENage: You mentioned training, what training have you had?

JB: I did voice training at Edna Manley for a year and did breathing and additional voice training with Leci Wright for my demo recordings. I was also briefly a part of the Lexus Performing Arts Company.

TEENage: What events have you been involved with?

JB: Like almost everybody else, I started on the church choir and I was involved in singing for school assembly. In high school me and a group of friends called ourselves ‘Flair’ and sang at a concert called Limelight. In 2007, I was a part of the choir for Beres Hammond at A Moment in Time and in 2008 I was in Shaggy’s choir at the Reggae Awards for the Church Heathen performance. I’ve also sang at weddings and at concerts at Stella Maris Church.

TEENage: Describe your style of music.

JB: My music is about fusions, reggae fused with pop or R&B.

TEENage: Complete this sentence: When I’m not singing, I am…

JB: chilling with friends or on the famous Facebook® (laughs).

TEENage: How do you balance school, your social life, family and singing?

JB: My family understands that it’s my dream, but generally I balance okay with school and everything. I’m not big yet though, so singing isn’t really in the way.

TEENage: What are your plans right now with music and your education?

JB: For music there’s nothing now, but I want to sing on some tracks and work on originals. In relation to school, I’m currently doing a marketing course at the University of the West Indies open campus.

TEENage: Do you plan to pursue singing as a career or is it just your hobby?

JB: (Smiling) Music is my lifetime goal. I love it and would do nothing else.

TEENage: Where do you see yourself in 2010?

JB: Hopefully, a big producer will discover me by then [laughs], but I’m definitely seeing some airplay and hopefully some shows.

TEENage: Which musicians do you look up to?

JB: (Thinking) Micheal Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Alicia Keys and Alaine.

TEENage: Who do you want to work with? (artistes, producers and events)

JB: I would love to work with Ne-Yo, Drake, Busy Signal and Tami Chin. For producers, I want to work with Timberland, Red One and Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor. I hope to be on the Sumfest line-up (laughs).

TEENage: If you were to go on tour, where would you want to go?

JB: North America, Asia, Europe, Paris in particular, and the Caribbean

TEENage: How can readers contact you/preview your work?

JB: There’s my Myspace® and my Facebook® pages, search Jordanne Patrice. My demos are all on my Myspace®.

TEENage: What advice do you have for other TEENs who want to start singing?

JB: Well, if you have the talent use it, because you don’t know where you’re going to end up. Don’t waste your talent.

TEENage: Any shout-outs?

JB: My family, my best friend Sammy and my good friend Andre Clarke. Also want to send shout-outs to my friend Elise Dash, who I think is going to be the next best thing.
