A goat racing event added to the excitement at Caymanas Park on Sunday as another bumper crowd turn out for its final thrill of Sunday racing for the season.

It is the sort of response Caymanas Track Limited’s (CTL’s) Chris Armond was hoping for and he is upbeat about the prospect of Sunday racing becoming a major feature of the racing calendar for the 2010 racing season.

Asked what impression he gathered from the positive turnout, he said: “You are here. You are seeing for yourself what is taking place. What do you think? For me it’s wonderful to see how people are enjoying themselves and this is our main objective to provide wholesome entertainment for those who want it.

“The kids on the infield are enjoying themselves. So too are the adults who want to bet or just watch a graceful thoroughbred in action.”

Meanwhile, the Colin Ferguson-trained 4-5 favourite Heartofachampion, ran away with the $715,000 Richard Ashenhiem Memorial Cup co-feature to share the laurels with 5-2 chance Cougway who won the $715,000 Joseph Armond Memorial Cup on the eight-race programme.

Ridden by Dane Nelson, Heartofachampion ran 1,500 metres in 1:34.4 to beat the 10-1 chance Train Tracker Boy by 5 3/4 lengths in the 15-horse field for native-bred two-year-old maidens. A bay colt by Ghost Ransom out of Heart Throb (Sir Lal Bahadur), it was his first win from four career starts.

Golden Harvest, a 2-1 bet partnered by Andre Martin in place on Hubert Bartley and who prompted the early pace until passed by the winner at the 500 metres pole, faded into third spot after being passed by Train Tracker Boy ridden by Richard Mairs.

The first-time runner, The Valediction, was well supported at odds of 13-1 and completed the frame with Shane Ellis in the saddle.
