Muschett move up in U-19 basketball

WAKEFIELD, Trelawny — Muschett High School moved into joint second place in the ISSA/KFC Western Conference high schools basketball championships after a 73-59 over winless Spot Valley High on Monday.

Muschett, who also won the first round meeting between the two schools, improved to 10 points, same as defending champions Cornwall College, with both trailing leaders Herbert Morrison, who are on 14 points.

William Knibb Memorial are next on nine points, followed by Mannings School on eight, while Spot Valley are next on six points.

An Under-16 game between Rhodes Hall High and Muschett was postponed due to the killing of a student at Rhodes Hall earlier in the day.

A poor start helped to deny Spot Valley their first win as they trailed Muschett by 11 points, 16-5, after the first quarter and despite improved showing the rest of the game, failed to catch up.

Muschett led 34-26 at the half-time break and 53-43 after the third quarter as Jason Billings led the way with 33 points and six rebounds. Kemaro Kellier and Ricardo Bulgin each scored 14 points.

Nicholas Smith scored 25 points to lead the visitors, while Everton Steadman and Demar Williams both got nine points.
