Bryan wants another chance in Norway
HARBOUR View FC striker Kavin Bryan, who recently completed a season-long loan deal with Norwegian First Division team Notodden FK, says the experience gained was invaluable.
He now hopes Harbour View and Notodden can reach an agreement for another stint in the Scandinavian country.
Bryan went as a replacement for former Harbour View frontman and teammate Fabian Taylor, who broke his leg only a week before the start of the Norwegian season in March.
But despite netting an impressive 21 goals in 15 reserve league games, the 25-year-old was rarely given an opportunity with the first team, and on reflection, he believes he could have made an impact.
“I learnt a lot of stuff that were more technical; they teach basically everything that I have learnt since I was young, the only difference is that they give more details.
“I went through two coaches, but the second one taught me more, like how to approach… the box and things like that,” said Bryan.
The pacy frontman conceded that playing football in northern Europe carries its challenges.
“…Things were very hard — the playing conditions, the weather, and even players sometimes make it hard to get along, but you still work hard and hope for your chance,” he noted in an interview following Harbour View’s 0-1 defeat against Village United in the Digicel Premier League (DPL) last Wednesday.
“But I’m really disappointed because I know that I could have done a lot more, but I never really got the chance,” he added.
The original contract, it is said, was a six-month deal and both clubs are in negotiations in an attempt to hammer out another deal.
“About 12 players have left and I think they are about to get a new coach, plus I already know what to expect, so it would be a good chance for me (if I could go back),” said Bryan, who has had stints with the senior Reggae Boyz outfit.
“But even if that doesn’t work out, there are other doors,” he said with an air of optimism.
Bryan, who took the field for Harbour View in Sunday’s crucial DPL game against Arnett Gardens at the mini-stadium, scored the only goal of the match to put the east Kingston side in the second end-of-round final with Waterhouse FC.
