Perfect run for Herbert Morrison in school basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Herbert Morrison High completed a perfect ISSA/KFC preliminary round in the Under-19 section of the ISSA/KFC Western Conference high schools basketball championships after beating Mannings School 78-40 in Montego Bay on Thursday.
Herbert Morrison, who will take on William Knibb in both sections of the semi-finals on Tuesday at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, join defending Under-16 champions Cornwall College as schools with perfect win records.
Meanwhile, Muschett secured their place in the Under-16 semi-finals, coming from behind to beat Rhodes Hall 41-30, ending the Hanover school’s hopes of a place in the top-four in their first season.
In Monday’s opening semi-final games, Cornwall College and Muschett will meet in the Under-16 section before Cornwall take on Mannings School in Under-19 action at the Cricket Club.
On Thursday, Kedar Clarke with 28 points, Jamoi Richards with 24 and Jervis Hamilton with 12, led a slow-starting Herbert Morrison to the win as they outscored Mannings 51-15 in the second and third quarters.
In Clarks Town, Muschett came from behind as well to beat Rhodes Hall who lost five straight games in two weeks.
Rhodes Hall, who had to win to stay in the race for the semi-finals, led 13-10 after the first-quarter but allowed the home team to tie the scores at 19 after a low-scoring second quarter.
Muschett edged ahead 29-28 after he third before restricting Rhodes Hall to two fourth-quarter points to run away easy winners.
Odane Gordon and Travis Green both scored 11 points for Muschett, while Brandon Cox and Davian Dobson scored 10 points each for Rhodes Hall.
