Greenwich Town stun Cavalier 1-0
MAJOR League’s leading striker Ricardo Munroe struck in the 41st minute against the run of play for Greenwich Town to oust Super League pacesetters Cavalier 1-0 at Constant Spring in the opening round of the Flow Champions Cup yesterday.
Greenwich Town’s coach Stephen Taylor plotted the defeat of the higher-rated Cavalier by bolstering the defence and crafting counter-attacks for the first half and then hoping the Lamar Morgan-guided opposition lost their way in the second half.
It worked as Cavalier looked second best in the encounter.
“We did some homework on the Cavalier team,” said Taylor. “We saw their strengths and weaknesses and worked on it. We made a small adjustment, coming with a back five instead of the normal back four; three in the midfield, and tried to keep the discipline.
Early in the first half, Andrew Mais and Andre Davy skied two close-range efforts before Munroe, with 12 goals in the Major League, slotted home a ball that Delroy Richards failed to hold.
For Cavalier, their focus was on the Super League, which they lead with 43 points, one ahead of Rae Town and two adrift of Santos.
