Flexxing with DJ Shine
Shining brightly in the disc jockey fraternity is a 21-year-old rising star who goes by the name DJ Shine.
Born Jason Goshine, this St Catherine High School alumnus rose to prominence after narrowly missing out on the top prize of the 2009 Heineken Green Synergy competition taking the runner-up spot. This disappointment only proved to be a stepping stone for this goal-oriented musical genius as his charisma coupled with his undisputed talent has made him a major player on the party scene in just a few short months.
However, as is the case with most success stories, Shine’s success did not come overnight neither did it come without a few obstacles in the way.
DJ Shine flexxed with us here at TEENage and gave us the 411 on his journey to and from the 2009 Heineken Green Synergy competition.
Even in high schools his friends saw his musical talent, but in wanting to please his parents, Shine took some time to get in the industry.
Nonetheless, his passion for music could not be denied and so motivated by the many who believed in him he committed to realising his dream.
When word of the Heineken Green Synergy competition reached Shine he was eager to enter as he saw it as an opportunity for him to get the big break he had been searching for and in his words it was an opportunity for him to “…show the talent of DJ Shine to the world”. Shine was not daunted by the fact that he was the youngest entrant; rather he realised that he had a lot to prove, and that he did — becoming a huge crowd favourite and gaining more fans as the weeks went on.
In the finals Shine seemed to have bagged the title up, until the very crucial tune for tune segment, but problems with a prop gave his opponent (DJ Jagga) time to snatch the title away.
Apart from his music, Shine is a self-proclaimed fashion icon, and believes that being in entertainment should not be limited to your own craft but must be well versed in as many aspects as possible.
DJ Shine’s unquestionable versatility, zeal, talent and ‘swaggarific’ mantra will definitely propel him to greater heights.
