Eglan Richards is new St James netball boss
MONTEGO BAY, St James — EGLAN Richards is the new president of the St James Netball Association after scoring a landslide 39-10 win over Clint Parkins at Saturday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Having served as treasurer in the previous executive, Richards replaced Winsome Barnes, who did not seek re-election. Richards promised the delegates: “I won’t let you down.”
In his post-election address, Richards declared, “Netball is alive and the game will grow.”
He also promised to meet with every club before the start of the first league.
Richards, who lost his first bid for the top post two years ago, also promised that he would call a press conference to announce new sponsors for the Senior League.
Saturday’s meeting saw an almost 100 per cent turnout of delegates; 51 of 52 eligible voters from 12 clubs, 13 schools and 14 executive members at the start of the meeting.
Gina Haughton was elected unopposed as the first vice-president while Deon Stern-Tingling beat Parkins 29-3 for the post of second vice-president.
Barnes was elected unopposed as treasurer with Carol Martin her assistant; Myrtle Wedderburn was returned unopposed as Secretary with Claudine Blair as her assistant.
The four floor members elected were Suzette Virgo, Robin Palmer, Matie-bel Edwards and Cleo Ebanks.
A special meeting is to be called to elect someone to fill the position of Public Relations Officer.
In her outgoing address, Barnes urged the players to improve their discipline both on and off the court, and implored the more senior players to be worthy role models for the younger ones coming into the game.
