We’re peaking at the right time, says Tivoli coach
Tivoli Gardens coach Lenworth Hyde believes his team is peaking at the right time to finish the 2009-2010 Digicel Premier League season with a flourish.
Hyde was speaking just moments after his team came from behind to thrash Boys’ Town 4-1 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex on Sunday. Tivoli now move up to 54 points, while the visitors remain on 39.
Roland Dean struck on the stroke of half-time and followed with another in the 70th minute, while Kemmear Daley scored in the 54th and 74th minutes for Tivoli to answer Boys’ Town opener from Anthony Bennett in the eighth minute.
Said Hyde: “We are peaking at the right time and it’s good for the team. I didn’t like the first half because we made a silly mistake and gave up a goal. The second half we came out with more intensity, more tenacity and we created chances and we scored the goals.”
Hyde also made mention of Tivoli’s exceptional defending all season which has allowed only 19 league goals in 28 matches.
“We have a rounded and experienced defence and that’s a plus for the team,” he said.
Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price blamed poor second half defending for his team’s loss.
“We played for about 40 minutes we just didn’t play. We weren’t tracking them properly and a lot of our frontline players weren’t available, especially defensively but we believe that whoever we put out there should be able to do the job but we were very sloppy in our marking today in the second half,” he said.
Price also lamented his team’s use of the ball but insists that if they had replicated their first half showing the final score could have been different.
“Our selection in the final third was not as good as I would have wanted, but if we had come back as competitive as we were in the first half the game would have been a whole lot different against a very good Tivoli team,” he said.
