LONDON, England (CMC) — Top-rated Chelsea got goals in each half from England internationals John Terry and Frank Lampard to defeat Stoke City FC 2-0 in their English FA Cup quarter-final yesterday afternoon.

Lampard sent Cup holders Chelsea ahead in the 35th minute and Terry struck midway the second half in front of 41,322 fans at their Stamford Bridge home ground to sink Stoke, who had Jamaica international Ricardo Fuller in their line-up.

With the victory, Chelsea are now through to the semi-finals against Aston Villa, who knocked off Reading 4-2 in their quarter-final on Sunday.

“Wembley is a great day out for the fans, we hold the trophy at the minute and we want to get back there,” Lampard said after the game.

Chelsea took the lead 10 minutes before halftime when Terry — from a corner — passed to the edge of the area for Lampard to blast a deflected shot past Thomas Sorensen.

Terry scored in the 67th minute when he firmly headed past Sorensen from a corner kick.

Fuller, whose incisive scoring propelled Stoke into the last eight, was a nagging presence up front and kept Chelsea’s defence honest with his forceful runs.

A late effort from Fuller saw goalkeeper Henrique Hilario pushing wide after the Jamaican had twisted past Alex in Chelsea’s defence.

It was a disappointing end to the FA Cup campaign for Fuller, whose double strike against Arsenal had eliminated the Gunners in the fourth round before he also scored in a 1-1 draw to secure a fifth-round replay against Manchester City, which Stoke also won.

Fuller had a total of four FA Cup goals, with only Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe (five) and Leeds United’s Jermaine Beckford (five) netting more.
