Reno could clinch Super League crown
BAMBOO, Hanover — Former champions Reno FC could clinch their second Captain’s Bakery Western Confederation Super League title with a win over Bamboo FC when they meet in a return-round game at the Bamboo Community Centre at 3:30 today.
The winner of the Western Confederation Super League will play off with the winners of the other three Confederations for one of two spots in the Digicel Premier League next season.
Reno FC, who are seeking to return to top-flight football a season after being relegated, lead the tables with 56 — five ahead of second-placed Seba United, which is the only other team that has a chance, albeit a slim one, of passing the Westmoreland-based club.
Reno FC, who won the first-round game 3-0 and are coming off a 6-0 thrashing of Catherine Hall, will start favourites, but Bamboo — who are in third place on 36 points — will be seeking to defend their home turf.
The former three-time Premier League champions have dominated the competition, winning 18 of 20 games, drawing the other two and scoring 50 goals while conceding just six to lead in every category.
Sheldon Bryan, who transferred from Exidos in January, has added to their offensive thrust by scoring four goals in their two most recent games, including a hat-trick against Catherine Hall on Sunday.
He will join Craig Foster and Nyron Davis as they go up against a Bamboo defence that has conceded 18 goals.
Seba will play relegation-bound Violet Kickers at the UDC field and after tripping up on Sunday in a 1-1 draw at home against Frome, will go on the goal hunt as they try to keep in the race should Reno fail to win.
In other games, Exidos host Catherine Hall, Frome and Wadadah will meet at Frome, while Mt Pelier and Granville will battle at Mt Pelier.
