STETHS nail Tacky, reach Headley Cup final
ST Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) stormed into the final of the ISSA Grace Headley Cup after demolishing first-time semi-finalists Tacky High by an innings and 241 runs at Chedwin Park yesterday.
Resuming from their overnight 66-2, chasing the 451-7 declared that STETHS made in their first innings, Tacky stuttered to 135 all out with West Indies Under-19 player John Campbell making 53.
The chief destroyers were Brian Gayle with 3-17, Cassius Burton, 3-21 and Donavan Nelson, 3-57.
The three-time defending champions were even more ruthless the second time around as they enforced the follow-on and subsequently bundled out Tacky for just 75.
Leg-spinners Burton and Nelson were again the main tormentors as they took 5-22 and 3-27, respectively. Pace bowler Damian Reid finished with 2-3 as no batsman reached 20 in the innings.
Winning coach Clive Ledgister told the Observer his bowlers put in a good performance to dismiss their opponents twice in a day.
“Our bowlers did very well, especially the two leg-spinners, and once they came into their own like that, it wasn’t hard to dismiss them (Tacky) twice,” he said.
STETHS now await the winners of the Holmwood Technical versus Manchester High semi-final to seek their fourth straight hold on the title.
“Our plan is to stay focused and play positive cricket, so once we do that, I don’t see why we can’t defend our title,” Ledgister added.
