‘Crick Fest’ gets mayor’s blessings
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — The Trelawny Parish Council has given the organisers of the Supreme Ventures Jamaica Cricket Festival the green light to stage the event at the Trelawny Multi- Purpose Stadium.
The Trelawny leg of the cricket competition — scheduled for today and tomorrow — was up to late Thursday in limbo, after the local authority threatened to pull the plug on the event, unless the organisers acquired the requisite permission from the local body to host the festival.
But yesterday chairman of the Trelawny Parish Council and mayor of Falmouth, Colin Gager, told the Observer that the organisers have since applied for a Places of Amusement Licence and have paid the requisite fee to the council.
“They (organisers) came in to our offices early today (Friday) and complied,” Gager noted.
He added that other stakeholders in the parish, including the Trelawny Health Department, the Trelawny Fire Department and the Jamaica Constabulary Force, have since been notified.
The Supreme Ventures Jamaica Cricket Festival began on April 3 and will end on April 18.
Today’s game at Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium will see Jamaica playing Ireland and the West Indies Team facing Canada, while tomorrow Jamaica will play Canada and Ireland will face the West Indies in T20 games.
President of the Jamaica Cricket Board Association, Paul Campbell, told the Observer that he expects a bumper crowds over the two days.
” With the publicity that we have gotten because of the Trelawny Parish Council, we are expecting to have a big turnout on both days of the festival,” said Campbell.
