The reality of faith
HEBREWS 11:1-2: “What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot see. God gave His approval to people in days of old because of their faith” (NLT). Faith is neither common sense nor rational. Actually it is antagonistic to both. They relate to the natural. Faith relates to the spiritual.
Faith must be exercised before the reality of faith becomes actual. Faith has no fellowship with doubt, unbelief or mind-wavering. Faith has no answers for logic or intellect; it is supported purely by absolute belief and commitment. Nothing Jesus ever said was initiated by common sense, but rather by “revelation sense”. Faith is unexplained knowledge. Faith must take this sequence: first belief then reality. Faith is a tremendously active principle which always puts Jesus first as Lord.
God allows situations and circumstances in our lives to educate and advance our faith so that the nature of faith will become a reality. When we get to know Jesus Christ, the “abstractivity” of God becomes real! We become reconciled sons of God through the atoning power and blood of Christ, who is also the author and finisher of our faith. No wonder the Bible tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).
Eternal Father, we thank You for the gift of faith. We believe that all things are working together for our good because we love You and believe that this nation is called to fulfil Your purpose. We believe that this nation will be a prototype of righteousness to the whole human race. We believe that our leaders will be righteous and just so that we will live quiet and peaceful lives in all godliness and holiness before You.
In Jesus’ name
Amen.
