Chai Chong returns as president of JGA
WAYNE Chai Chong was re-elected president of the Jamaica Golf Association at Friday’s election held at the Constant Spring Golf Club in Kingston.
His election represents his second consecutive period of serving as president.
Chai Chong was upbeat about his service to date and while being positive about the future, he said, “I am pleased about the first term in that we have been able to turn around the fortunes of the association in these difficult times.”
He added: “I’m feeling positive about the new term, for growth in junior golf as well as golf at the tertiary level.” Additionally, he announced that there are plans to convert the golf academy to a par-three course in order to make it more attractive to the public and boost its income.
A number of persons were elected to the board for the first time. They include Vikram Dhiman, who was elected to the post of treasurer (first time serving in that capacity). He has been the junior golf chairman and representative on the board for some time.
Jodi Munn Barrow, national female representative for several years, was elected to the post of ladies representative, while Dave Lyn and TV Allen were elected as committee members. All the newly-elected members will service for a period of two years each.
The returning members to the JGA executive are Peter Chin (vice president), Orville Marshall (honorary secretary) and committee members Gordon Hutchinson, Errol Mckenzie and Thomas Smith.
They have one more year of service, having been elected to the board at last year’s election.
