Cocktails with… Meghan Fabulous

Ahead of presiding over the May 31 trunk show at KERRY manwomanhome on The Rock, statuesque LA designer Meghan Fabulous is chilling at her cosy office bar… just the stuff to fuel creativity, right?

What is your favourite cocktail?

I love all drinks really! I love the taste of a cold beer after work, and on the weekends I love to grab a Grey Goose and Perrier with lime as I am doing now.

Which celebs have you dressed?

I am proud to say that I have been lucky to dress many celebrities… my favourite that I have dressed being Shakira. She has requested many pieces from my collection.

What’s the best thing about being a successful designer, and how has the journey been?

I really don’t feel as if I have hit the “successful” point yet… I am THOROUGHLY enjoying every single minute of my life right now… being able to make money at my passion is really an awesome concept! This journey has been long, hard and at times unbearable, but my love for fashion has kept my dream alive.

Where can we find your designs?

I sell Kitson in Los Angeles and Japan, Beyman/ Egypt, Bloomingdales/ Dubai, Harrods/ London, Louis Vie Roma in Italy, Kerry in Jamaica, and in over 32 other countries over the world.

What’s your must-have accessory?

I am never without a great pair of sunglasses… the sun is always shining over me!! Right now I just picked up a new pair of cat-eye Diors that I am in love with.

What perfume are you spraying?

I am an Angel by Thierry Mugler girl… it is a cult fragrance.

What’s in your handbag?

It’s a Mui Mui sequinned box briefcase bag, and it is: my passport; I never know when I might be travelling.

A Balance Bar in honey-yogurt-peanut, my favourite snack. Big fatty mascara by Urban Decay… the best mascara on the planet. Angel perfume, my studded Miu Miu wallet, Porsche key, house and office keys. An assortment of Noir cocktail rings; Dentyne Ice Chill Gum; Lip Smackers Dr Pepper Lip Balm, Flower rhinestone barrette, iPhone 3G, L’Occitane hand cream, MAC lip gloss, Dior sunglasses and Urban Decay lip gloss Pocket Rocket in “Eric”.

What’s in your fashion black book?

I LOVE vintage-designer clothing, and am always scouting out great new shops to pick up something that I need for my collection. I just discovered a fantastic monthly vintage market in Kyoto, Japan that is to die for. I love Portabello Road in London, and Les Trois Marches De Catherine in Paris, France. Hong Kong is fabulous if you want to buy high-end designer goods without paying tax, and the selection is off-the-hook since Asian women are more daring with fashion than American women.

What’s your style?

I don’t really have a name for my style, but others would call it “bohemian-designer-fabulous.”

When you’re not at work where’s the best place to find you?

Shopping, of course!

Who or what inspires you?

Nature, water, birds, butterflies, and great music.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

“Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.”

What’s in your car stereo?

I have my iPod connected to my stereo, so I like to put the songs on shuffle and see what comes out. Currently in rotation: Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, The Indigo Girls, Led Zeppelin… there are so many varieties that I love!

What projects are you currently working on?

We are going full force for spring ’11 with an accessory collection… a full range of cocktail rings, jewellery, and small handbags. This is consuming ALL of my free time!

And 10 years from now?

Maybe finally time for a husband and family?
