Valcke: No profits for WCup hospitality business
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) — FIFA says the World Cup hospitality business run by Match will not make money in South Africa.
FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said yesterday it had been “a difficult situation” for Match Hospitality, which markets high-cost suites for FIFA.
Valcke said “the international market, and I am talking mainly about the European market, has been very poor”.
FIFA said it is now selling “super category one” tickets for $200 where the buyer has access to a bar and food. The tickets cost more than category one, the most expensive stadium seats, but far less than the original price for hospitality places at World Cup matches, which were not selling.
Valcke said “definitely it will not be a profitable business for Match”.
