Seaga says TG’s win a morale booster
PRESIDENT of Tivoli Gardens’ sports programme Edward Seaga says capturing the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) Berger Super League title will come as a major morale booster for the embattled community.
“Although it’s been a long time, it has come at the perfect time,” Seaga told the Observer minutes after the team captured the best-of-three final 2-0 against seven-time winners Jamalco.
Tivoli has been at the centre of recent civil unrest in which over 70 members of the community died.
“With all the pressures that they have been under, to show the character of the girls… and they not only won it, but they came from five points down to four points up in a very short time; it was just excellent,” he said.
The victory in the netball competition comes a few months after the Tivoli Wizards won the National Basketball League (NBL) title while Tivoli Gardens FC finished second in the Digicel Premier League (DPL), a fact Seaga hastened to point out.
“That says something for the community, but there’s no question about,” he said, “these girls really played, they played their hearts out. They had a point to make, and they made it.”
