Windalco, Jamalco to contest Open final
MINERAL HEIGHTS, Clarendon — Windalco stayed on course to register their second consecutive hold on the Jamalco Open League title when they downed newcomers Mico University College in the semi-final on Sunday at Mineral Heights.
The Winston Nevers-coached team stopped Mico, 34-24, to set up a repeat of last season’s final with sister team Jamalco, who turned back Holmwood ‘B’ 42- 24 in the other semi-final.
The two Super League giants will now meet in next Sunday’s decider for a chance to cop the $50,000 bounty and the consolation prize of $40,000.
Mico and Holmwood ‘B’ will also meet next Sunday in the third and fourth-place play-off with the winners taking home $25,000 and the loser $15,000.
At the end of the competition, the eight teams that contested the quarter-finals will compete for Juici Patties/Clarendon Senior League title, while the remaining eight will play for the Junior League, both set to begin in the next two weeks.
