Eto’o ready to lead, says Cameroon coach
DURBAN, South Africa (AP) — Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen says Samuel Eto’o, who threatened to quit the team in the lead-up to the World Cup, and was sent off in a warm-up game, is ready to lead his team in South Africa.
Le Guen says the Inter Milan striker is one of the world’s best players and will lead the Indomitable Lions by example at the tournament.
Eto’o threatened to skip the World Cup after former Cameroon striker Roger Milla criticised him for failing to reproduce his club form with the national team.
Le Guen was speaking yesterday at Cameroon’s first training session since arriving in South Africa.
Cameroon open their World Cup campaign against Japan in Bloemfontein on Monday. They face Denmark on June 19 and the Netherlands on June 24.
