Fuller’s SOS nets £1,000 for school
REGGAE Boy Ricardo Fuller has donated £1,000 (J$126,000) towards the sporting programme at the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School in Stony Hill, which he has now adopted for the second year running.
“I am happy I’m in a position to help with this £1,000 and will make it a priority to do this every year,” said Fuller yesterday.
“As long as I can make a difference I will always do that. If you don’t stand up for something you will fall for nothing,” he noted.
Fuller, 30, who currently plays as a striker for English Premier League club Stoke City, said he will be prompting his teammates to make a donation of £100 each, which would total approximately £3,000 for the school next season.
“People do this every day after training sessions for various organisations. I’ll do my part and try and get some donation in the changing room. If 30 give me, I’ll be OK,” Fuller told the Observer.
Fuller also urged the students to aim for the top and try and do the right thing.
“Little things are small, but when 10 people do it, it adds up. I always try to do the right things,” he said.
Gregory Wint, national director of the SOS Children’s Village of Jamaica Foundation, said the school, which hosts approximately 200 students, really appreciates Fuller’s generosity.
“We believe that sports can be used to achieve upward mobility and Mr Fuller’s contribution — not only his cheque, but his inspiring words — will go a far way in giving the children the kind of encouragement that is needed,” said Wint.
Members of the school’s choir performed a beautiful rendition of I Am Special as their small band provided the melodious rhythm which had Fuller rocking throughout.
Mackeda Palmer then gave the vote of thanks, blessing Fuller for his donation.
“I would like to extend to you our heartfelt gratitude. Thank you so much for all that you have done. May God continue to bless you and I hope that you would continue to lend a helping hand,” she said.
