Gaston forms in the Atlantic
MIAMI, USA (AP) — Forecasters say the seventh tropical storm of the season has formed far out in the Atlantic on the heels of Hurricane Earl that’s steaming toward the Eastern Seaboard.
Gaston is the fourth tropical storm to form in the last 11 days for a season that has suddenly become busy.
The storm has sustained winds of 40 mph (64 kph) with higher gusts and is expected to get stronger over the next two days.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Fiona gathered strength yesterday as it approached the northern Leeward islands.
At 8:00 am yesterday, the Miami-based National Hurricane Centre said that Fiona, with winds of 60 mph per hour, was located 70 miles north-east of Barbuda.
A tropical storm watch was issued for St Martin and St Barthelemy while Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Anguilla, St Maarten, Saba and St Eustatius issued a tropical storm warning for their residents.
