Fiona fizzles as it moves away from Bermuda
HAMILTON, Bermuda — Fiona, the latest storm to approach Bermuda, weakened to a tropical depression in the Atlantic late yesterday and then degenerated into a remnant low, the Bermuda Weather Service (BWS) said today.
Fiona began to move away from the island towards the north-east and was no longer a threat to the island, the BWS said.
“Unsettled weather remains for the rest of the weekend with showers at times. A trough brings more frequent showers and thunder more likely on Tuesday. A northerly flow brings more settled cooler weather on Wednesday,” said the BWS.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said Fiona had winds of 30 miles per hour and there were no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Last month Tropical Storm Colin fizzled out as it approached Bermuda while last week Hurricane Danielle, a powerful Category Four storm, passed 250 miles to the east, bringing some high winds but little rain.
