Australian lawmaker gets frisked at CommGames
NEW DELHI, India (AP) — Australia’s sports minister didn’t get any VIP treatment at the Commonwealth Games athletes’ village, having to stand for a pat down from security staff after arriving in an unaccredited vehicle yesterday.
Delhi’s Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna said nobody, even Australian Sports Minister Mark Arbib, was exempt from the strict security, Press Trust of India reported.
“Sorry, there is no concession for anybody. If anybody does not have proper accreditation, he will have to go through the process,” he said.
“We cannot be complacent about security… the security at the games village is foolproof.”
Khanna said the athletes didn’t mind the high security.
“All the athletes are satisfied and this is one of the best games village in any sporting event. All the 6,000-odd athletes who have arrived so far are happy,” he said.
