Murder in Grants Pen again
DESPITE the arrest of more than a dozen influential members of the impoverished community of Grants Pen, gunmen continue to wreak havoc.Observer.
Homicide detectives from the St Andrew North Police division are now probing a second murder in less than a week.
Fredrick Dixon, 18, of Shortwood Road in the community was attacked and murdered yesterday.
The Grants Pen Police report that about 4:29 pm Dixon was riding his bicycle along Shortwood Road when two gunmen pounced and shot him.
He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Dixon was a suspect in the murder of a man who was beaten and stabbed to death earlier this year. It is suspected that Dixon dropped a boulder in the man’s head as he lay on the ground.
“He was out of the area and came back yesterday. They saw him and fixed him up,” a cop said.
About an hour after Dixon was killed the body of a homeless man who begs at the intersection of Waterloo and Shortwood Roads was found with his head bashed in at an open lot.
However police are not willing to declare the man’s death a murder.
“He had head wounds but we do not know if he fell and hit his head or was hit with a blunt object. We will have to wait for the result of an autopsy to find out,” head of crime in the division Superintendent Altermoth ‘Parra’ Campbell, told the
Campbell rued the treatment meted to the less fortunate in society.
“There were two of them begging there. One of them told me that a young man came to beg him for money and when he refused the man hit him hard. Here is an old man begging and a young, strong man comes to beg him and treat him like that? It is not acceptable” he said.
On Monday Orlando Crawford, also called ‘Eggy Man’, was shot dead near a section of Grants Pen known as ‘Cruiser Bank’.
A suspect in Crawford’s murder has since been taken into custody.
