Farewell, David
Cap: Former Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson
Dear Editor,
The news of the death of my friend, David Thompson, reinforces the mortality of humanity but also the immortality of a spirit lived unselfishly and ultimately sacrificially for the amelioration of the soul of a people, a nation, and a Caribbean community.
For the legacy of the man goes far beyond being prime ministerial and the finite pages of our present time. His legacy rests in the virtue and vision of the leadership he offered: the integrity, friendship and pre-eminence of his thoughts and the convictions which he held.
Farewell we shall say to our brother with whom we will be reunited by faith which possessed his life and which no doubt has gained for him the ultimate victory.
I applaud his signal contribution and salute, respectfully, the legacy of a statesman.
