One-dimensional economic approach
Dear Editor,
I refer to your story in Caribbean Business Report on October 29, “Jesus Silva: Setting new ambassadorial standards in Jamaica”.
It would be a terrible mistake if the politicians in Jamaica subscribe to the notion by the former Spanish ambassador to Jamaica that tourism is the way forward as an industry for the island.
Without a doubt, tourism will play a major economic role in Jamaica in the future, but a
one-dimensional economic approach for a country could be disastrous. Jamaica must harness its indigenous resources, including human resource, to develop the country and move its people forward economically and socially.
