CASE, Knox CC win in Division One football
PORT ANTONIO, Portland — The College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) defeated last-placed Mico University College 3-0 in an Intercollegiate Division One football match here last Saturday.
Magauth Duncan (55th minute), Clinton Clarke (74th) and Calvin Smalling (88th) scored for the winners.
Under slippery conditions, Mico started out attacking through Trevin Skyers, Kaldone Harris and Rosano Harriott, but found Carlington Dodd, Kemar Pinnock and Joel Murray hard to penetrate.
CASE sapped up the early pressure and countered through Trevon Burrell, Magauth Duncan, Clinton Clarke and Gilbert Williams.
Mico should have taken the lead when Ramone Chung’s high ball to Harriott was headed over the crossbar, and shortly thereafter, Skyers’ shot had custodian Craig Morris going high to hold on.
Mico’s Kemar Scott got his left shoulder injured after slipping and was out for a few minutes, but returned to hold the midfield together as the half ended goalless.
The home team took the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Magauth Duncan finished a series of blocked shots by Gilbert Williams and Calvin Smalling.
With Williams’ shot bouncing off goalkeeper Leslie Blake, Smalling passed to Duncan, who fired into an open goal from close range.
CASE went further ahead from the penalty spot when keeper Leslie Blake brought down Magauth Duncan in the box and referee Vern Harris pointed to the spot for Clinton Clarke to score.
The hosts sealed the issue when a shot from substitute Conrad Griffith was poorly handled and Smalling made no mistake, firing into an open goal in the 88th.
