Reggae Boyz ring changes for match tonight
SAINTE-LUCE, Martinique – There will be six changes to the Jamaican starting side when they face Guyana in their final first round match of the 2010 Digicel Caribbean Cup football tournament here at the Riviere Pilote Sports Complex at 9:00 pm (8:00 pm Jamaica time) today.
Forced by the one-match suspension of captain and defender Shavar Thomas and ace midfielder Rodolph Austin, as well as injury concerns to front line striker Omar Cummings (right quad), head coach Theodore Whitmore has opted to introduce Richard McCallum in goal, Keneil Moodie, Richard Edwards, Eric Vernan, Troy Smith and Ryan Johnson.
The rest of the starting team is Jermaine Taylor, Adrian Reid, Keammar Daley, Luton Shelton and Dane Richards.
Defending champions Jamaica have already advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament as Group I winners, regardless of today’s other result, which involves the curtain raiser between Antigua and Barbuda and Guadeloupe for second place, and the Reggae Boyz have also qualified for next summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Cuba won Group H with seven points, ahead of Grenada on five. Many times champions Trinidad and Tobago finished third on three points, with Martinique ending at the bottom of the group on one point.
Jamaica will face Grenada, in a repeat of the 2008 championships final, in Friday’s second semi-final, while Cuba will face Group I’s runners-up earlier.
The teams are vying for US$120,000 for first place; US$70,000 for second; US$50,000 for third and US$30,000 for fourth place.
