Digicel not only talks, it walks the walk
Dear Editor,
I see where the politicians have all been lining up to sing the praises of the boss of Digicel. That is as it should be. Digicel has made a wonderful commitment to the revitalisation of downtown Kingston. I am really pleased to see that they not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk.
All of Jamaica is proud of the true corporate spirit displayed by their decision to move to a downtown location. I can only hope and pray that their new neighbours reciprocate the gesture. If what some friends told me is to be believed, then we know that the downtowners are capable of acting in ways that show enlightened self-interest. I was told
that at the height of their popularity, the “sessions” that were being held in Rae Town were under a benevolent form of “Home Guard protection”. People knew that it would take only one ugly brawl to drive the uptowners back up the hill. I hope that the folks over in West Kingston are equally enlightened and willing to “guard the home turf”. It can take only a few muggings to get uptowners to abandon their social experiment and head for the hills.
