Digicel deserves all the awards
Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to Chairman of Digicel Group Denis O’Brien.
Congratulations on your achievements in Jamaica, Mr O’Brien. Your company deserves every million it makes.
But I am bewildered that you did not win all the prizes on the table at the Business Observer Awards last Tuesday. The other businessmen did not deserve to win anything. Had it not been for Digicel, Jamaicans would still have been sitting there, not having a clue how to dial a telephone number, how to use a computer, or how to access the internet.
I returned from abroad to live in Jamaica less than 10 years ago, and when I wanted to call my family in Canada, I had to travel at least 10 miles to stand and wait in line for hours in order to make a phone call because the other telephone company did not seem to have the necessary technology to expand its service.
Mr O’Brien deserves to be the head of state. I will be in Jamaica on December 12 and would certainly like to like to meet him.
Observer, when you started your newspaper, you were the best thing that ever happened to Jamaica. You are still a good paper. The other one can shut up its mouth!
