Seba look to move ahead in Super League
BAMBOO, Hanover — Seba United could move three points clear of the field in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Captain’s Bakery Western Confederation’s Super League this afternoon when they take on Bamboo FC in a rescheduled game at the Bamboo field in Hanover, starting at 3:00 pm.
The league’s only unbeaten team is tied on 19 points with Wadadah, but will take over sole leadership today if they can avoid a loss.
Seba, who are coming off a 2-0 win over Catherine Hall at the UDC field on Sunday, led the game 1-0 with 10 minutes to go on December 12, but the game had to be called off due to bad light. The game had started late due to heavy rains.
Bamboo, who won for the first time this season by beating last-placed Exidos 2-0, could have some problems holding off the prolific Seba attack that will be led by Kemar James, who leads the scoring race with 10, while Jermie Bucknor (four goals) should offer solid support.
Two more games will be played today — St James’ Granville travel to Russia, while Frome FC host Mt Pelier.
Frome are in third place on 16 points, three more than the Hanover club.
Frome have won their last two and are on a roll, while Mt Pelier have won once and lost the other.
On Sunday, Wadadah came from behind twice to edge Cousin’s Cove 3-2 at Jarrett Park, while Tomorrow’s People and Harmony drew 1-1.
Yves Clarke scored twice for Cousin’s Cove, who are in their first season at this level and were up 2-1 at the half time break, but lost concentration in the second half.
Clarke gave Cousin’s Cove the lead after 24 minutes, but Curtis Palmer scored his ninth goal of the season to tie up the scores in the 36th minute.
Clarke again scored in the 39th as the Hanover club took the lead to the break.
Damion Reid took advantage of a defensive breakdown in the Bamboo area in the 53rd minute to bring Wadadah level again, while Oniel Selvyn scored with his first touch in the 69th minute.
Both teams created good scoring chances, but Cousin’s Cove’s Phillip Gardener’s point-blank shot in the 59th was blocked by a defender, and a minute later, another close range effort was also blocked on the goal line.
