Bailey, Wilson soar in long jump
RAMONE Bailey of Wolmer’s and Kingston College’s (KC) Jerome Wilson shared top honours in the Class One boys long jump as rain played a prominent role in yesterday’s Douglas Forrest Invitational Meet at the Stadium East field.
Bailey and Wilson both leaped 7.30 metres to claim joint first, while Kemarki Absolam of St George’s College finished third with 6.73m.
Elsewhere in the field, Shanice Porter of Wolmer’s sealed the Class One girls high jump, clearing the bar at 1.65m, with Excelsior’s Sedeen Casvette second with 1.60m.
David Hall of KC claimed the boys equivalent, clearing the bar at 2.00 metres ahead of Calabar’s Demar Robinson with 2.00 and Jason Lewis of Wolmer’s with 1.95.
In the Class Three boys event, Akeem Powell claimed victory, clearing the bar at 1.80 ahead of Shaquille Shaw with 1.70 and O’brien Waysome 1.65.
On the track, Halle Green of The Queen’s captured the girls 400 metre hurdles Open in 1:06.20 ahead of the Alpha duo of Krista-Gaye Taylor (1:06.60) and Kimberley Golding (1:09.10).
Green was on the medal podium twice after finishing second the Class One girls 200 in 25.98secs behind teammate Kylah Clarke, 25.88, with Davia Wiltshire third in 26.37.
Heavy rains started midway the boys 200m which affected the electronic timing equipment, forcing subsequent races up to the third heat of the Class one boys 800m event to be hand-timed.
Meanwhile, Rashaan Burnett of Jamaica College (JC) captured the Class Two boys half-lap in 21.51 ahead of Ashani Williams, 22.12, and Deshawn Jackson of JC, 22.39.
Ashley Stephens of Glenmuir won the class three event in 25.98 ahead of Andriene Rose of Wolmer’s, 26.09, and Robena Jackson of Immaculate, 26.40.
Christopher Kennedy and Jordan James of Wolmer’s A were first and second in the boys equivalent in 22.54 and 22.61, while Michael O’Hara of Calabar clocked 23.24 for third.
Excelsior had a 1-3 in the Class four event as Jody Ann Petrie won in 26.0 with Voshon Lynch, 26.14, and Akhalia Buchanan of Wolmer’s, 26.48 finishing behind.
The boys equivalent went to Kevaughn Allen of Wolmer’s in 55.8 ahead of Calabar’s George Fearon, 56.1, and Yannick Hart, also of Wolmer’s, 56.5.
Wolmer’s Girls’ Gayja-Dee Codlin claimed the girls 3000m Open in 12:29.0 with Shanice Richards of Greater Portmore (12:48.1) and Antonette Allen of Upcomers Athletics (12:49.7).
Beajaun Jones of JC secured the 5000m in 16:52.62 with Ptolemy Hayden of Ocho Rios second in 17:13.89 and Calabar’s Warren Dunn third in 17:16.21.
