Fraziers, Lion hunt mid-season titles
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — Fraziers Whip chase their second title in five days when they tackle Treadways in the LIME/St Catherine Division One mid-season final at the Spanish Town Prison Oval today.
However, the feature game of the double-header will see Black Lion going up against Portsmouth in the corresponding Major League decider two hours later at 5:00.
The Red Pond-based Fraziers outfit last Wednesday proved their giant-killing act was no fluke when they pipped parish powerhouse Rivoli United 1-0 for their first hold on the senior St Catherine Knock-out title.
That victory, coupled with their unbeaten record in all competitions, automatically installed them as favourites to add a second trophy to this season’s collection.
Fraziers currently sit atop the Division One tables with 18 points — four more than Treadways — after registering five victories and three draws.
Treadways lost 1-3 to Fraziers in the regular season, but should be motivated enough by the incentive final to avenge that defeat.
In the late kick-off, despite playing to 2-2 draw in their only meeting so far, Black Lion are expected to get the better of second-placed Portsmouth, whom they lead by seven points in the league tables.
