Piers Morgan reduces Oprah Winfrey to tears as his first CNN Tonight show airs
His interviews on ITV1’s Piers Morgan: Life Stories always guaranteed tears from celebrity guests including Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell. And now it seems Morgan is using the same tried and tested tactic for his new CNN show, managing to reduce first guest Oprah Winfrey to tears on his Tonight show debut Monday night. During points in the interview Oprah teased Morgan, pointing out that she could cry, but wasn’t going to. However, right at the end of their exchange, the 56-year-old broadcaster began to well up as she talked about Martin Luther King.
“Now you are going to make me weep,” Oprah told Piers, whose new show replaces Larry King’s. “I could weep over that.” Asked why, she explained: “I would because I hold him in reverence. And I know that I would not be here… this life… the dream that I live in, would not be possible if he hadn’t had been who he was.” Oprah talked about how Luther King, an iconic civil rights campaigner who was assassinated in 1968, would have been proud to see president Barack Obama running the United States of America.

Ricky Gervais insists he was NOT gagged at Golden Globes… as awards boss brands jibes ‘unacceptable’
Ricky Gervais insisted on Monday he had not been carpeted at the Golden Globes after subjecting a room full of speechless American stars to lewd jibes at Sunday night’s ceremony. He vanished from the stage in the middle of the awards show, leading to speculation that he had been carpeted. Viewers said that when he returned some time later he looked subdued. A spokesperson for the comedian today called rumours he was chastised by bosses “utter rubbish” fuelled by “Twitter speculation.” Gervais insists the mood backstage was “great” and his extended time away from the camera was planned. During the three-hour ceremony the 49-year-old insulted just about everyone in the film industry, among them Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp for their film The Tourist, Charlie Sheen, Robert Downey, Jr, Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Tom Cruise. The president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association blasted the comedian for his routine, saying he had “crossed the line” with some of his jokes. President Philip Berk told The Hollywood Reporter: “Some of the things he said were totally unacceptable”.
