Hawks beat Heat to close gap
MIAMI, USA (AP) — Josh Smith made a go-ahead lay-up with 34.7 seconds left in overtime to give the Atlanta Hawks a 93-89 win over the Miami Heat on Tuesday, cutting the gap between the top two Southeast Division teams to two points.
Joe Johnson scored 19 points, including a game-tying layup with 25.4 seconds left in regulation and two game-sealing free throws with 5.2 seconds remaining in overtime. Jamal Crawford also scored 19 for Atlanta.
LeBron James scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Miami, but missed a long 3-pointer at the end of regulation and another 28-foot try as the shot clock was expiring late in overtime and the Heat down by two.
The Heat have lost four in a row, blowing a chance at the end of regulation by choosing not to call time-out for a final play. James’ 28-footer then banged off the side of the rim just before the buzzer.
Bobcats 83, Bulls 82
In Chicago, a shot on the buzzer by Derrick Rose missed and Charlotte held on to edge Chicago.
DJ Augustin scored 15 points and Gerald Wallace had 13 points and 16 rebounds to help the Bobcats snap a three-game losing streak, with their last win also against the Bulls last Wednesday.
Rose scored 33 points to lead Chicago, which was without injured forward Carlos Boozer — second on the team in scoring and rebounds.
