Pascal, Fletcher lead Windwards to crucial win
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Crucial strikes by Nelon Pascal followed up steady batting led by Andre Fletcher to lead Windward Islands to a thrilling two-run victory over reigning champions Guyana in the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship on Tuesday.
Pascal took 3-23 from four overs, as Guyana, chasing 139 for victory, were restricted to 136-9 from their allocation of 20 overs in the Group-A match at Kensington Oval.
Steven Jacobs led the way for the Guyanese with 36, and Christopher Barnwell hit one four and three sixes in 31 from 16 balls in a futile, late charge to victory.
The result left Jamaica, Windwards, and Guyana, all tied on eight points. But the Jamaicans essentially lead with a superior net run rate of +2.281, ahead of the Windwards with a NRR of +0.217, and Guyana with -0.574.
The Guyanese have completed their quota of four matches, and this means today’s matches, which feature CCC and Somerset in the day’s opener, then Jamaica and Windwards in the nightcap, will ultimately decide the fate of the Amazon Conquerors.
