Abigail Hamilton lets it rain
According to ancient history as recorded in the book of 2 Samuel 3:3, Abigail, was the wife of Nabal; who became a wife of David after Nabal’s death. Now, there is a young gospel artiste whose name is Abigail Hamilton, recording songs as she puts it, to make everyone examine their own lives.
This Brooklyn-based singer originally from Kingston, Jamaica, fits the description of her Biblical namesake, that of an intelligent and beautiful woman. The 20-year-old who accepted the Lord when she started singing at age 12, released her maiden album Let It Rain in 2010.
The former background vocalist for Goddy Goddy, said she want it to be a vehicle that helps people across the globe to acknowledge that God is in control and only He can ‘Let It Rain’ according to their deeds and faithfulness.
“I plan to take it all over the world, basically. Because the Bible said you should go to the four corners of the earth and preach the gospel. I believe that there’s a lot of souls out there to be saved and I know that this album could change lifes, so I plan to take it very far and I know that God will open doors for me to do so,” was Abigail’s testimony in an interview with this newspaper.
The past student of Pembroke Hall Primary School and an old girl of Merl Grove High, is now studying early childhood education at the Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York in order to fulfil her teaching aspirations.
In the second half of last year, Abigail had the number one song on the most popular gospel station in Brooklyn. That’s the third track on the album titled I Won’t Move.
Although new to the gospel music industry, she has an amazing fan base that covers all ages and idioms, secular and gospel, both christians and non-christians. She has graced stages with such gospel acts as Papa San, Mary Mary, Tye Tribbett, Shirley Caesar, J. Moss and JJ Hairston and Youthful Praise to name a few.
“Well, this album consists of reggae and R&B. I am from Jamaica, so know, I have to have my little reggae touch,” she chuckles while adding, “and I live in America now, so I have to have a little American flavour.”
Apart from minister Goddy Goddy, who is also featured on Let It Rain, are Chris Belmont, the American gospel rapper Seda, the upcoming group Sons of the Prophet (S.O.P) and Donald Romain.
