Kartel returns to Follow di Arrrow
High-riding dancehall deejay, Vybz Kartel leads the list of top dancehall acts billed for this year’s 12th of the annual stage show Magnum Follow the Arrow, set for the James Bond Beach in Oracabessa on February 28.
Speaking at the launch held at the Mango Ranch in Kingston, the show’s promoter Dexton Ennis says that this year’s staging will be one loaded with discipline and tardiness of artistes will not be tolerated. “Artistes have a tendency to be late – if they should work a 20 minutes show it oftentimes has to be cut to 10 because of their lateness and it is unfair to the patrons. If they are late, their fee may be cut,” says Ennis.
Last year’s edition of Magnum Follow di Arrow is indeed proof of the event’s far-reaching acclaim. Audience members witnessed Vybz Kartel’s first ever performance at the show, which has traditionally been dominated by members of the Alliance. The party promoter later cleared up speculations about Magnum Follow The Arrow being confined to a particular group saying that the show was not confined as an Alliance show as often referred to.
Expecting to perform at the show are Bounty Killer, Sizzla, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Mr Lexx, George Nooks, Coco Tea, Gyptian, Assassin, I-Octane and many more. MC’s for the night include the outspoken talk show host Ragashanti and the vibrant disk jockey DJ Sunshine
The show has continued to maintain its presence as one of the greatest events held within the Parish of St Mary. In 1999, Dexton Ennis, had the remarkable idea of bringing top-notch entertainment to the often overlooked North Eastern side of the island. Its modest beginnings at its original venue in Mango Valley became the stepping stone necessary to propel the event to its current level of popularity. Magnum came on board as the official sponsor of the concert in 2004 giving it new direction and limitless possibilities for improvement. Since this collaboration the show has grown to meet the ever increasing demand of its large fan-base which necessitated its move to James Bond Beach in 2006.
While the show will feature prominent musicians in the industry it will also dedicate a special slot for up and coming talent. The section of the event fittingly called, “Artistes for the Future”, will promote newcomers Clifton Rattigan, Bill Gatez$, I-sane, Denno, Oxygen, Properly, Razor B, Deh Deh and Jah Sent.
Part proceeds from the concert will go to the St Mary Infirmary and gates will be opened promptly at 9:00 pm.
