Meadows back atop South Central Super League
LIONEL TOWN, Clarendon — Rivoli United were replaced by Meadows atop the South Central Confederation Super League following their 1-2 defeat to Monymusk in Sunday’s cross-zone fixture at the Monymusk Sports Club.
Rivoli started the day with an unbeaten record on 16 points, and looked to be staying on top as the game headed for a draw.
But, a late penalty from David Mackay (89th) turned the game on its head as the hosts took the lead, only for Rivoli to restore parity a minute later.
There was more drama to come, however, as young Andrew Isaacs — returning from his short stint with Premier League outfit Humble Lion — snatched a stoppage time winner for the Clarendon side.
The Doen Mullings-coached Monymusk are now the sole third-placed team on 12 points, while Rivoli dropped to second after losing their six-game unbeaten record.
Meadows, now the league’s only unbeaten team, made the most of their parish mate’s slip-up, as they surged atop the standing on 17 points following their 2-0 blanking of Dela Vega City in the St Catherine derby at Albion Oval.
Former champions Naggo Head (11) moved into the top-four for the first time this season after goals from Ricardo Francis and Orlando Dyer saw them past Mile Gully in Manchester.
New Bowens were also among the movers as they joined Bodles on nine points, but are a place behind in sixth, after they rallied to beat Downs 2-1 at the Downs Community Centre.
In other results, Marvin Wright’s first-half strike gifted promoted Newell FC an upset 1-0 win against Bodles at Hunslow, while Newland notched their first win in seven tries, beating Christopher Bender’s Tru-Juice 2-1 at Bybrook Oval.
