Black History Month is known for the flurry of activities to highlight the achievements and contributions of black people throughout the world. And Jamaica is no different, that’s why Ras Penco is playing a role to ensure that young people respect their black heritage, even in an age of rampant skin bleaching and self-identity issues.

“Although Black History Month is a North American phenomenon, but I have noticed that Jamaica has been celebrating this annual event in recent years, that’s why I am doing my part to educate the public, and to keep the youths focused and aware of their heritage,” Ras Penco said .

Ras Penco, best known for the ballad Thousand Miles Away released two years ago, will be doing his part to educate during Black History month through a live show which will be held on tomorrow at The Deck, Trafalgar Road, New Kingston. The Thousand Miles Away singer encouraged his fans can come out to listen to him and his Penco Music House band deliver hits such as Be By My Side and Most High.

“They can all expect some brand new material as well. It’s going to be a different type of performance, it’s live music, not the regular type of show,” he said.

Ras Penco has been busy in the studio and recently released singles such as Your Love and Fire Still A Burn on his Penco Music House label.

“Thousand Miles Away is a special song, and whenever I perform it, the people sing it word for word, mi just glad say it ah get some glory,” Ras Penco said.

“Mi just a try put out substantial music, to provide positive food for the people’s minds and souls. Reggae music is about motivation and encouragement especially in these difficult times, I just want to provide songs of prayer, of love and unity, you know word, sound and power,” he said.
