White Witch tops Actor Boy nods
Musicals head the list of plays nominated in the production category for the 2010 Actor Boy Awards, scheduled to take place at the Pantry Playhouse on Monday, March 28.
The Fairfield Theatre’s White Witch heads the list of nominees with an impressive 15 nominations, the exciting musical based on the infamous Annie Palmer, received the judges’ nod for directing, original song, original score, choreography, new Jamaican play, musical as well as designing nominations for set, costume and lighting. Keiran King and Maylynne Lowe were also selected for the lead role categories while Phillip Clarke and Noelle Kerr have been named in the supporting role categories.
The Campion College Musical Cindy has also been chosen for the production category with eight nods including director — Cathi Levy, original score, musical, children’s theatre, costume design, and for supporting actors Craig McNally and Michael Daley. The University Dramatic Arts Society’s Glass Routes with four nominations is the third musical in that category which is rounded out by the University Players production Tartuffe and Jambiz International’s Midnight at Puss Creek with six nominations each.
Other productions include Appropriate Behaviour with six nominations, Blinga Linga and Judgement with five each while Pygmalion and Backstage each have four. There are two nominations for Graffiti, Run Di Track, The Plumber and Jamaica Farewell while Twelfth Night, Vibes, Second Chances and Tick Tock are all in with a single nod.
Administered by the International Theatre Institute – Jamaica Centre, the 2010 Awards will see the The Schools Drama Festival of Jamaica being recognised for its over 62 years of exemplary contribution to the advancement of Jamaican theatre.
