Celebs Love Moroccanoil®

Get The Look

We’re Under The Dryer this week with Hollywood master hairstylists Robert Vetica and Antonio Calero of Moroccanoil® whom we caught up with at the just-capped Miami Beach International Fashion Week, organised by Sobol-Perry Fashion Productions Inc. Moroccanoil® was the official presenting sponsor for this year’s staging of the event. Their team demonstrated stylish argan oil-infused runway looks using the products. And that’s not all, Vetica gave our team the ‘deets’ on just how he created those to-die-for ‘dos seen on celebs Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Swank at the recent Golden Globe and Academy (Oscar) awards.

Jennifer Lopez’s textured updo at the 82nd annual Academy Awards

Vetica created Jennifer Lopez’s elegant textured updo for an absolutely stunning red carpet look at the Oscars. The look was a very modern and sophisticated complement to her beautiful Armani Privé gown. Here’s how he did it.

o Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream, which gives a natural-looking hold, eliminates frizz, and adds definition and shine, was applied to wet hair.

o Vetica then blow-dried Lopez’s hair straight and sectioned it into two ponytails an inch apart, one on top of the other, for fuller volume below the crown.

o A curling iron was then used on each ponytail to create texture, then brushed out for width and volume.

o He then created the shape of the updo, strategically pulling out strands throughout for a modern, textured effect and using flyaways around the forehead to further soften the look.

o Argan oil-infused Moroccanoil® Luminous Hair Spray is then misted onto her tresses to lock in the style and for added shine, leaving hair glistening and touchable without a sticky build-up.

Scarlett Johansson’s ’40s glamour at the Golden Globe Awards

Scarlett Johansson channelled 40s Hollywood glamour in a blush-hued Elie Saab gown accented by a semi-modern updo, expertly crafted by Moroccanoil® stylist Robert Vetica. Inspired by the sophisticated snapshots of fashion photographer Lillian Bassman and the gracefulness of the actress’s dress, Vetica created an exquisite ‘do that “blended softness, movement, direction and a new sculptural shape”.

o Firstly, Moroccanoil® Treatment was applied to Johansson’s tresses to ensure shine, flexibility and a smooth texture. The product not only strengthens, conditions and revitalises the hair, but also reduces drying time.

o Vetica then blow-dried her hair “to create a feeling of movement and volume at the back of the head and height at the crown”.

o The hair was then pulled back from the face and brought to the nape of the neck, then up towards the crown.

o The expert stylist then curled small sections of the hair, starting at the neck and moving towards the crown with a half-inch curling iron. He then curled the hair to the back once he reached the crown, creating a tight set of curls throughout, directed upwards to the crown.

o Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray was then misted onto the strands for a light hold, then hair was vigorously brushed through from the neck towards the crown, keeping it away from the face.

o Vetica followed with a well-defined backcomb to create a directional shape, again bringing the hair up and away from the face. After which Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray was misted onto her hair for a “soft, moveable hold”.

o He then attached two 1934 Flammes brooches featuring round and baguette diamonds set in platinum from the Van Cleef & Arpels Private Collection to accentuate the ’40s vibe of the dress.

o To complete the look, the top of the hair was brushed through to smooth out the curls and give it a wave, then the root of the front was backcombed for added height. Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray was again misted onto her tresses to set the look, followed by Moroccanoil® Glimmer Shine Spray, which also protects the hair from harmful UV rays and free radicals, for a natural-looking shine.

Hilary Swank’s romantic chignon at the Oscars

Beloved actress Hilary Swank was resplendent in a stunning beaded silver gown by Gucci Couture as she presented at the Oscars this year. But it was her modish asymmetrical chignon that pulled the look together flawlessly. Master hairstylist Robert Vetica explains how he achieved the fabulous ‘do made with three interwoven sections of hair which was inspired by “the romantic, elegant styles worn by film icon Grace Kelly”.

o Moroccanoil® Treatment was applied to Swank’s hair ahead of blow-drying. Vetica opted for this product as he wanted the overall look to be natural, “smooth and luminous, as if there was no product in it”. He also explained to our team that the lightweight conditioning product is ultra-absorbent without being too heavy, and protects the hair against thermal damage.

oThe hair was separated from ear to ear, curled in small sections to create wave and texture, then pulled back from the face.

o Vetica then backcombed the back for fuller volume, misted with Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray and brushed it through ahead of securing it in a loose ponytail.

o The sides were then teased, and the top section also backcombed, with emphasis on the roots. He then misted Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray onto it and unified both sections.

o The hair was then gathered into a tight ponytail at the base of the crown, then sectioned into three parts, sprayed individually and interwoven to create an asymmetrical chignon.

o Finally, Moroccanoil® Glimmer Shine Spray was then misted onto the actress’s hair for an added boost. The stylist explained that this was done to revive the hair, as the backcombing and heat styling tends to dull its natural shine.
