Wizards, Sons in big NBL showdown
TWO of the best teams in the 2011 Flow/National Basketball League, defending champions Tivoli Wizards and newcomers Swift Sons, will square off tonight at 7:00 in the feature match of a double-header in the innovative UTech Sundays showpiece.
Selassie Gardens will challenge St George’s Slayers in the opening match at 5:00 pm at the University of Technology (UTech) Auditorium, as the Flow/NBL enters its fifth week with most teams set to play their eighth or ninth round of matches.
The Wizards climbed to 13 points Thursday when they outpointed Braves Chiefs, 67-63, in their Southern Conference match at the Stadium Courts, with the hustling Anthony Farquharson leading the way for the defending champions with 33 points, nine rebounds, four assists. Jermaine Davis (12 points, five rebounds) and Lascelles Johnson (10 points, 14 rebounds) tried to keep the Braves’ hopes alive.
Tivoli trail by one point leaders Majesty Legends, who humbled Selassie Gardens, 70-48, also on Thursday. Kemar McLeish, one of the most talented players in the league, scored 22 points for Majesty with Havando Dunn chipping in with 15 points, eight rebounds and Baldon Todd 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Last Wednesday, the Sons upped to 12 points when Adrian Wellington and Andrew Gouldbourne scored 16 and 15 points in a 74-67 victory over Blazing Panthers.
President of the Jamaica Basketball Association (JaBA), Ajani Williams, described the Flow/NBL Sundays at UTech as “dazzling family entertainment”.
Tickets for regular seating will cost $250, while VIP court-side seats will go for $500.
