Bail extended for alleged fraudster
A former employee of GraceKennedy Limited, who is accused of defrauding the company of just over $300,000, had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court Friday.
Jermaine Facey, 29 of a Kingston address, who was employed to the company as a sales representative, is facing charges of larceny as a servant, forgery and uttering forged documents.
According to police reports, in October of last year, Facey created an invoice against the account of a customer and presented it to the company. It is further reported that Facey was subsequently given goods to the value of $324,003.10, which he collected.
Sometime after, the company discovered some irregularities in Facey’s account and conducted an investigation, following which it reported the matter to the Fraud Squad. Facey was arrested and charged but was later released on $100,000 bail.
Facey, when cautioned by the police, reportedly said: “Officer is a little accident me meet in a with a Benz and a man draw gun pon mi and say me affi fix dem car, so me give dem the money.”
When the matter was raised in court last week, Facey’s attorney Charles Williams asked for a further mention date in the matter. Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey then extended Facey’s bail for him to return to court on April 28.
