Cali P’s tune makes movie sound track
REGGAE recording artiste Cali P has been making major moves in the international market since the release of his single Like A Lion (Hot Steppa) which was produced by Phantom, Cali P’s partner in the Inspired Music Concepts label.
The song has caught the ear of film producers who are set to use it as part of the soundtrack for a documentary feature of the same name about seven-time ESPN X-Games gold medallist, Tanner Hall.
The artiste is completing a six-week European tour to promote Unstoppable, one of his two albums which are to be released this year.
“The response to the Unstoppable album has been great so far. It’s a project I did with one producer but it’s not a reggae album. It has mostly dancehall, Hip Hop and R&B flavours. That’s why I only wanted to release it in Switzerland at first. You know I am a reggae artiste so really and truly the albums that I want to release worldwide are some purely roots reggae albums,” he said.
“I am working on that album in Jamaica. It will be called Musically Speaking. It was supposed to be released already but since the Unstoppable album was finished first, and as we invested a lot on that album and videos, we didn’t want to put it aside. It’s not an album for someone who knows Cali P as a roots reggae artiste, but it has a different flavour,” he said.
In the meantime, Cali P’s roots album will come out in 2011.
“The tour has been great so far, the dates in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium have been great. I return to Jamaica in April for a few weeks, then I will go back to Europe to visit my family,” he said.
Locally, Like a Lion (Hot Steppa) is currently in heavy rotation on radio stations.
In the chorus of the song, Cali P deejays: I’m mean like a lion/ I’m free like a lion/ Mi move and have the authority/ Tell dem man a hot, hot, hot, hot, hot steppa/ Like a lion man a hot, hot, hot, hot, hot steppa.
In the meantime, Cali P has released another single called As One featuring Stress, the top platinum-selling rapper from Switzerland. The video was shot for the single and released in Europe. This is the first video from Cali P’s upcoming Unstoppable album. Shot in Ibiza last September, the video has cameos from Riga, MAM & T. The single will be available online as of March 25 from iTunes.
