Forde’s double denies Harbour View at Brancourt
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon — Sporting Central Academy will contest a third successive Digicel Premier League relegation battle despite rallying twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Harbour View on Sunday at Brancourt.
The visitors were off to the perfect start when Rafeik Thomas jumped unchallenged to nod in a rebound in the second minute.
Oneke Forde equalised 20 minutes later, meeting Keith Kelly’s cross with a powerful header, but the ‘Stars of the East’ regained the lead just after the break when Jahmali Spence rifled the ball home.
They then missed a glorious chance to go 3-1 up as John-Ross Edwards had a penalty saved by Andre Blake, before Forde drilled in a spot kick of his own to salvage a point.
Sporting are winless in 14 games and their management team will now be left to rue their decision not to acquire a goal-hungry striker to lead the front line, as they prepare for yet another fierce relegation scuffle.
The Clarendon-based team have been joined by Reno, Arnett Gardens, Benfica, St George’s and Humble Lion in the bottom six, where they will play-off to avoid the drop.
Title-chasing Harbour View remained 10 points off the lead and their faint hopes of registering back-to-back successes are now in jeopardy.
But, Donovan Hayles’ side only have themselves to blame after twice surrendering the lead and also missing what would have been a sure game-winner from the penalty spot.
