Here’s how…To Move Forward

Nicholas Parchment

Cold Storage Merchandiser

Wisynco Group Limited

The journey for Nicholas Parchment began about 11 years ago at a small supermarket, Home Service, located in Barbican Square where he packed grocery bags for four years before the supermarket closed its doors. It was then that a customer, Mrs Chang, introduced him to Ken Loshusan, who offered him a job at his New Kingston supermarket John R Wong.

Parchment admits that John R Wong opened many doors for him. And under the guidance of Christopher Lycet, his trainer and mentor, he progressed from bagging groceries to maintaining the dairy fridge and assisting in the bakery. It wasn’t long before he was promoted to assistant meat cutter.

However, on December 10, 2010 Nicholas Parchment began his new job at Wisynco, and John R Wong and its customers lost a treasured team member. But after seven years with no suspensions or warning letters, he had definitely given his best and knew that it was time to move on. While at John R Wong, he says, he learned to communicate with people, and learned how to present himself, qualities which he knows helped him to secure his new position.

From here, he hopes to advance to a position as a sales representative or even a manager in the future, firmly believing that there is more room for growth at Wisynco. “I want to make my life better, more comfortable,” he shares with Thursday Food. “As young people we need to go out there and meet different people, and follow our hearts… realise our dreams and work towards them. Persevere so that we can achieve more. Every day there is something new to learn.”

In addition to working with Wisynco, Nicholas is also sending himself back to school to complete subjects in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate.

So does he ever wonder if he made the right choice? “Yes, it was a good choice. My dream is to have my own house and family. Getting my education and working hard is what’s going to give me that… and having patience. Without that and humility, you’ll get nowhere.”

There’s no doubt that Nicholas Parchment will rise to the top and make a name for himself.
