Northampton, Rocky Hill lead St Bess Div One
AFTER six rounds, Northampton and Rocky Hill are the respective zone leaders of the St Elizabeth Co-op Credit Union Division One competition.
Northampton, the zone a leaders, jetted from the pack after winning five of their six games and drew one to top the overall standings with 16 points.
They chalked up 2-1 wins over second-placed Middle quarters (seven) and botton placed Retrieve, (two); 3-1 and 2-0 wins over Newcombe Valley (three) and Black River (seven), respectively, and drew 0-0 with third-placed Round (seven) in the first round.
On Sunday, thery registered their second straight win, 2-0 over Newcombe Valley.
Rocky Hill regained the top spot in Zone B following their away 2-0 win over Prospect FC, with whom they drew 2-2 in their first round encounter.
They now lead the standing with 12 points — one more than previous leaders Knoxwood (11), who were beaten 1-2 by third-placed Longwood, who are now on 10 points.
They are followed Haughton on seven points, New Market with four points and botton-placed Prospect FC on three.
However, with four rounds left to be completed before the end of the month, it appears as if there may be three teams coming from Zone B if they continue to play well leading up to the semi-final. The top four teams will advance to the next round.
